Fire wipes out classroom building in Bella Vista
Tonight the management of a primary school in the Stann Creek District is sifting through the ashes after one of their buildings burnt to the ground. According to Dangriga police, they responded to a call around one this morning that there was a fire at the primary school in Bella Vista Village. When they arrived, they saw a wooden three-classroom building engulfed in flames. While police and residents managed to prevent the inferno from spreading to surrounding structures, attempts to save the blazing facility proved futile. The building housed ninety-six students in two infant two and one standard five classes. According to District Education Manager, Oscar Reyes, until another structure is built, Bella Vista’s standard three class will be transferred to the nearby San Isidro Primary School and their vacated rooms will then be used to house the displaced students. The destroyed building and its contents are valued at approximately sixty thousand dollars. There is no word yet on the cause of the fire, but police say they are not ruling out the possibility of foul play. They are asking anyone with information to call the nearest police station or the Crime Stoppers hotline at 0-800-922-8477.
