Tanya Carter’s new music video and Jamaican excursion
In the past, Belizean singer Tanya Carter has opened for Etana, Luciano, Lexxus and Morgan Heritage. Carter released a music video for her latest song, Ex-Boyfriend, a week ago. Carter had been in Jamaica collaborating with Christopher Birch of Birchill Records and also performing her brand of music for the past two weeks. When she returned to Belize earlier this week she said that to follow up on the energy and warm reception she received in Jamaica, she hopes to complete an album soon.

“My trip to Jamaica was amazing. This time it wasn’t vacation, it was more promotion; promotional tour. I had some performances. I performed at one of the most craziest crowds in Jamaica which is Magnum Kings and Queens. I recorded four more tunes with Christopher Birch and I did a whole lot of interviews: Observer, the whole JRJ Group of Companies. It was very, very fulfilling; I met a lot of starts too.”

“Do you think Jamaicans are becoming more open or becoming more aware of Belizean music?”
Tanya Carter
“Well the reason why they are being open-minded is because I keep selling—or telling them rather—that Belize is no different than Jamaica. We have similar cultures, similar type taste in music and we kinda look very similar as well. So they are very open-minded to people doing reggae and dance hall and who is bringing something new to the forefront. And that is just what I am selling. I am not really selling oh I come and compete with nobody. I am just here to be a Belizean gial singing reggae with a different flair.”
“You have an album you are working on, a music video?”
Tanya Carter
“Well the thing is that my Jamaican team is now sparked to do an entire album because of the major feedback for ex-boyfriend. We are not sure how the album is going to be, but we are kinda taking it slow and taking songs that I have written—most of the songs that I recorded this time are songs that I wrote myself. So we are definitely doing that whole it’s going to be full Belizean with just a little bit of their patois, but mostly Belizean.”
Her next video is for the song Secret, which was written by reggae artist, Duane Stevenson.
