B.E.L. applies for a nominal rate reduction
The Belize Electricity Limited is applying for a rate reduction in electricity rates for the period July first, 2013 to June thirtieth, 2014. The application to the Public Utilities Commission is for a reduction of approximately one cent per kilowatt hour to reflect the actual Cost of Power since January 2013. B.E.L. is also proposing to reduce its targeted Rate of Return from ten percent to nine percent due to a reduction in the financing costs. The application for rate reduction, however, is nominal compared to the huge increase at the beginning of the year to consumers, but not to the government. But this weekend, brace up for a four hour power outage that B.E.L. will be putting in effect on Saturday morning for five to nine a.m. The entire city will be without light except for those areas after mile one on both highways. B.E.L. will be conducting emergency work at its substation and distribution system on Magazine Road.
