Third suspect in passport heist turns himself in
Following the recovery of ninety-five passports stolen from the Belmopan Immigration Office, tonight police say they have their third suspect in custody. According to investigators, around seven this morning Julian Garcia Samos, the owner of the bag in which the passports were found, showed up at the San Ignacio Police Station in the company of his aunt. We understand that all three men are cooperating with the official inquiry and that statements from the detainees are currently being recorded. The passports were discovered on Tuesday night in the rented bedroom of a home at the corner of West and Second Streets in San Ignacio. Two men were detained at the scene but during a press conference at police headquarters on Wednesday, authorities indicated that a third man was also being sought for questioning. The blank passports went missing from a secured location in Belmopan in September. Two employees finance officer Audrey Bennett and her second, Jackie Wagner, continue to assist officers in their investigation.
