Two arrested for robbery spree

Story PictureToday, Belize City police arrested two men they strongly believe went on a robbery spree on Tuesday afternoon that yielded them a total of fourteen hundred dollars. Authorities say thirty-three year old Sherlock Martinez and twenty-four year old Denroy Domingo have been positively identified as the two robbers who held up thirty-six year old Ronald Cayetano at a shop on Vernon Street. Cayetano told police that as he stood by the establishment a man whom he was able to recognize approached him and asked for two dollars. According to Cayetano, after handing over the money the man then offered to sell him a watch but told him he would need to accompany him to his house to see the jewellery. Cayetano reported that as he reached a residence on Mayflower Street he was met by three other men who were all known to him. But then suddenly Cayetano says one of them placed a knife to his left side while his accomplices searched his pockets. The robbers, took a total of two hundred and fifty-four dollars and then ran away. However, the police after getting a description of the suspects, were able to apprehend two of them. Martinez and Domingo have been charged with Robbery. Additional charges were also filed against the duo as police say Martinez and Domingo were positively identified in another hold-up in which they allegedly stole over a thousand dollars from tortilla vendor Francisco Mai. Mai told police that on Tuesday while he was on Mayflower Street he was stopped by a man whom he was able to recognize. According to Mai, he was seated in his vehicle when the man said he wanted to buy tortillas. But as soon as Mai reached into an ice box to get them, the man pulled out a chrome handgun and placed it to his head. Mai says that four other men then dragged him out of his vehicle and took him upstairs of a white concrete house. Once inside he was held down at gunpoint and his pockets searched. Inside Mai’s wallet the robbers found a total of one thousand, one hundred and fifty dollars. The men not only grabbed the cash but their victim’s wrist watch and cell phone as well. Belize City cops say they are now looking for the two accomplices who remain at large.
