A.C.C. holds telethon to recover stolen money

Story PictureThis weekend, the students and staff of the Anglican Cathedral College are hoping Belizeans will support their efforts to recover monies stolen from the school almost four months ago. A.C.C. has planned a radio telethon at the Battlefield Park and as explained by the school’s public relations officer Michelle Turton, the event is designed to make fundraising fun.

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
?How much money is the school looking to raise on Saturday??

Michelle Turton, Teacher, P.R., A.C.C.
?Well we are looking to raise as much as possible, well into the thousands, hopefully. No real target in mind. We know that from the robbery that had happened to us in June, we lost close to ten thousand dollars so of course we are looking to recover some of that or most of it. So what we are having tomorrow is this grand telethon. And there will be a lot of entertainment, there will be the A.C.C. music band playing all day and of course we will be having barbeque on sale and we will have baked sale for those people who have a sweet tooth they could come out and get all of their sweets here.?

Jacqueline Godwin
?Michelle, we are standing in the office where the crime was committed and the first thing that I noticed when I walked in this morning was that some construction was done to improve the security. Just tell us about the work.?

Michelle Turton
?Previously this area was an open area just behind me here you can see that it is enclosed almost like a little cage. We have a glass case here and it will hopefully prevent any further cases like what happened in June. That is one of the main things that we can see here, and we also have a door just behind us and previously that wasn?t there.?

Jacqueline Godwin
?The gate was actually broken.?

Michelle Turton
?Right there was a gate before but now it is a sealed door. Now you can?t really just move over from one point to the other. So that is one of the main things. We have tighter security at the gate as well and a strict process that people need to go through before coming in to do whatever business. So hopefully that will ensure that we will not have another mishap like that in the near future.?

If you would like to financially support A.C.C. you can call into the radio telethon at telephone numbers 227-1661 or 227-1663.
