Belize City shop owner shoots thief
An accused thief is tonight recovering from gunshot wounds after a Belize City man busted him burglarizing a store. According to police reports, just after midnight this morning, thirty year old Dwight Moody was shot in the ankle near Betty Chen’s Store on Mahogany Street. According to Chen’s brother, Bing Quan Chen, shortly before the incident, he had gone to the establishment to check the premises. But as he looked through a window, Bing says he spotted two men inside. The intruders made a run for it but not before one of them reportedly threw a bottle at Bing. It was at that point Bing says he pulled out his licensed thirty-eight handgun and fired at the culprits. When cops arrived they were able to detain the injured man, later identified as Moody, and his accomplice. Charges against the duo are expected to be filed shortly.
