Two charged for Tourism Village burglary

Two brothers have been arrested after police found a large quantity of stolen items at the family’s house. According to authorities, their investigation into a burglary that occurred between September fourteenth and September seventeenth at the Jewels of India shop inside the Tourism Village led them to a residence at North Creek Road in Belize City. This morning, brothers Wilford and Brian Pinto were formally arraigned before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord. Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge of burglary. During the arraignment one of the accused, Brain Pinto, told the court that a third person who used his vehicle to carry the stolen goods should have also been charged. Lord, in his response, told Pinto that perhaps the other person had decided to become a witness for the crown. The Pinto’s were remanded to Hattieville Prison until they reappear in Court on October twenty-seventh. Authorities say when they searched the Pinto’s residence they discovered most of the stolen items that included an assortment of cell phones, jewellery and digital cameras. Earlier this month the store owner reported to the cops that sometime over the three days thieves had broken into the establishment and the goods, valued over twenty-nine thousand dollars, were gone. Because the Tourism village is known for its tight security it was a mystery as to how the accused managed to gain access into the compound. As it turns out, Wilford Pinto is very familiar with the location: he was one of the facility’s security guards.
