Norman Rodriguez’s poetic “Expressions” launched
Earlier this week, two books; Moments in Time Volumes one and two, penned by Doctor Corinth Morter Lewis were officially launched. There is another book to add to your collection of books. Expressions; A collection of poems celebrating motherhood was launched today at a Bliss Center for the Performing Arts by its author, Norman Rodriguez. A teacher and a community activist, Rodriguez has published several poetry books including “Glances” in 2009 and his 2011 patriotic commentary, “Panning to Perfection.” Expressions consists of forty-five poems and Rodriguez said that his recent work is dedicated to his wife and daughter.
Norman Rodriguez, Poet/Author, Expressions
“The inspiration was always there. Some of the poems, one or two may have been published in the different books that I’ve done before. But poetry is something that I can’t stop doing. It just happens. I sit, I get comfortable with things on my mind and I just write. That’s it for me with poetry; it just happens and I don’t have control over it. In regards to putting the work together, I have found out it is much more than putting a book together. Forty-five poems celebrating motherhood in this book and I am drawn more to the poem, “I Love You,” because in this collection like I said, I have my daughter and wife with me. I am actually celebrating my wife being a mother to my child and I have them here with me. So I dedicate that one to my wife, Vanessa, and my little girl, Amy. She wrote the poem, “Mold Me.” Just sitting there and I told her V, I have like thirty-something poems and I need to write a few more. Why don’t you write a poem? And she said, me write a poem? I don’t know to write poetry. And I said stop, you can write poetry; put a poem together. And then she said maybe I can write one about Andoreen and my mother and she went ahead. And it is a beautiful poem; I like it. My first major collection, “Glances,” was published by Belizean Artwork. That was their first publication. So when they began and when I really started doing major publications, the relationship was there and they’ve been publishing my books from then. They did “Panning to Perfection” last two years and now they are doing this one and they will do more for me.”
You can get your copy of the book from Rodriguez or Belizean Artwork as well as M & M Enterprise near BelChina Bridge at twenty-five dollars.
