U.D.P. will march in Independence Day parade

In the twenty-five years since the granting of Independence internal political unity in Belize has been an elusive commodity. And while the act of marching in a parade may not seem to be a big deal, within the context of Belize’s two party polarity it’s a major milestone. In a short press release today the United Democratic Party announced that it has accepted the invitation of the September celebrations Committee to participate in Thursday’s Independence Day parade. It goes on to say that Leader of the Opposition Dean Barrow and other U.D.P. officials will march and are urging their supporters to join them. In the recent St. George’s Caye Day parade Prime Minister Said Musa and several P.U.P. ministers broke tradition by joining in the march. In recent years the size of the tenth parade has been viewed as a measure of U.D.P. strength.
