Sports Monday highlights with veteran sportscaster
Good Evening I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday. Game two of the PBL’s home and away series for the 2013 football title brought out its due pomp and circumstance to the occasion Saturday night at the F.F.B. Stadium inside Capital City. Police United went in with a precarious 1-nil lead from game one over F.C. Belize and we all know it never over till it’s over. In the opening minutes of the ball game F.C. Belize gets to open the scoreboard off this set piece triggered by John King but the ball inches over the crossbar. We’re four minutes in when Avian Crawford finds Martin Leslie with the lovely pass which the midfielder directs perfectly to Michael Hernandez whose diving header gives F.C. Belize the 1-nil lead to tie the series at one apiece. As the rain comes down Amin August mounds this individual effort that sees him fire this left foot grounder that forces goalkeeper Glenford Chimilio to come up with an unnecessary touch and he does.
At the other end John King come up with this loose ball and fires the left foot that travels wide off the goal. Lennox Castillo then tries to level the score with this nice launch in heavy traffic but Chimilio comes up with a good save. So we go to the second half and Police attacks off this corner kick which forces goalkeeper Chimilio to opt for a punch out which reaches Raymond Marin whose valley inches over the horizontal bar. F.C. tries to double its lead when Michael Hernandez lets loose this left foot that goes straight to the Police keeper. Devon Makin gets this look at goal when he picks up this loose ball just inside the box but hits it directly to the keeper. In the next press Devon Makin penetrates to F.C. defense only to be let down by a bad touch inside the 18 that allows Luis Arriola to make the stop.
Folks, Police United is in the ascendency when Lennox Castillo finds Daniel Jimenez who smashes the ball into the far corner of the goal to tie the ball game at 1 apiece at the 73rd minute. F.C. Belize now needs a goal to force overtime play so Michael Hernandez looks for his goal but Kirk Allen beats him to the ball. Danny Jimenez then looks to secure the win for Police with this right foot punch only to see Glenford Chimilio make the stop. The long whistle from referee Henry closes game 2 with 1-1 tie which gives the 2013 title to Police United with a 2-1 aggregate. We say congratulations to the new PBL champion as the celebration begins.
In the post season awards issued after the match – Glenford Chimilio of F.C. Belize emerged with regular season top honors and the Best Goalkeeper Award. Turning to the basketball scene play in the IBL, Friday night matched Sir Belikin against Youth. Sir Belikin gets off to the quick start when Dorian Jones now looks to Keith Acosta who hits the triple and would lead all players with 26 points and 19 rebounds. Superman still has game. Brian White answers for Youth Services with hard work in the paint for 2 of his 12 game points. It’s another triple for Acosta when he hits this bucker. At the end of the 1st quarter, Belikin is up 21 to 18. In the 2nd, Ty Bradley keeps the beer rolling—1st he finds and then he delivers 2 of his 10 points for the night. When Jamir Enriquez hits this bucket he pulls youth services within 2—enriquez would put up a tam high 19 points. Travis Lennon comes up with this nice move down low for 2 of his 14 Belikin points. Steven Williams controls this loose ball and raises up for a big time 3.
In the 3rd, Lennox Bowman ties the ballgame at 46 points apiece. Bowman would throw up 12 points before he is ejected from the proceedings. Here’s why…first he disagrees too vociferously with the referee which earns him a 2nd yellow card and is tossed. For good measure, he gives this chair wings before being escorted off. In the 4th, Youth Services make it a game. Chris McGann goes glass for 2—he would finish with 8 points 8 rebounds. It’s a 1 point game when Dorian Jones hits this big bucket for Belikin as the Beer goes on to post the 78-74 big win.
