Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center received donation from Hospital auxiliary

The Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center is home to some sixty underprivileged youths at its King’s Park location. Well today, the youths had reason to celebrate as much needed supplies were handed over courtesy of the Hospital Auxiliary. The donation included mattresses, sheet and beds to make sleeping conditions more comfortable for the underprivileged children. And while President of the Hospital Auxiliary, Magda Burgos refrained from putting a value to the donation, Hortence Augustine of the Child Care Center says it is priceless.

Magda Burgos, President, Hospital Auxiliary

“Our membership decided to donate some mattresses, some sheets and some beds for the children because we knew that the rotary club had expanded and made new spaces for bedrooms and so we decided that that would be a good initiative. And at the same time, we had a member who said that she was able to get these mattresses donated and the family from Orange Walk, the Punjabi Family, offered to donate some of the mattresses. The children here at Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center are important to us because they are our future; future of Belize and we think that they should be properly nurtured and raised. So to help this place is really a privilege for us to do that so I guess that’s how we came up with the idea.”

Hortence Augustine, Foster Mother, Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center

“I believe when you are dealing with children, you always need and so we try to keep friendly with organizations like the Hospital Auxiliary to assist our children in whatever needs they can afford to us. We are so happy that these mattresses came in at a time where our rooms have been renovated and more spaces are there. So they assisted us with beds, mattresses and sheets and we are very grateful for the contribution.  Our role here at the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center is to love, nurture, care for and to assist children in having them go back into society and making something out of themselves.”

Burgos also took the opportunity to invite the public to join the hospital auxiliary. For more information Burgos can be reached at 223-1818.
