Sports Monday highlights with James Adderley
Good evening, I am James Adderly and this is Sports Monday.
The Orange Walk 1st Division season quarter final round was filled with action yesterday as San Estevan F.C. took on the San Lazaro Revolution in game 2 of the 2-game series to advance to the semi-finals. After beating San Lazaro 2-1 last week San Estevan F.C. roared out of the starting blocks yesterday and we’re only 2 minutes in when Aldain Chan sets loose Edwani Munoz with this wonderful pass for him to open the scoreboard with this power punch from close range that goalkeeper Edit Corado could do absolutely nothing about. 4 minutes later Aldain Chan hooks up with Edwani Munoz whose power slice with the reject foot on the run makes it a 2-zip lead some 6 minutes into the affair. San Estevan looks to pull one back off the set piece triggered by running Joel Carillo but the goalkeeper Adimael comes up with a save. In the meantime Sergio Gonzalez puts his keeper in hot water when his attempt to clear is blocked, Patt can’t grab hold of the ball but recovers in time to make the save. Adimael Patt then heats Aris Adonel Serrano to this ball so Serrano takes him down for which he rightly receives a yellow card. Just before intermission San Estevan’s #5 Jose Quiñonez bruises Edit Corado with this charge. Incensed, Corado retaliates to earn himself a red card and now the Revolution is down to 10 men.
16 minutes into 2nd half Jose Quiñonez times his run perfectly and then beats the keeper to score into an empty net as San Estevan goes up 3-nil. San Lazaro then gets this chance to get on the scoreboard from the penalty spot but the execution is woefully lacking. At the 74th minute Araldo Palarmo centers into the danger zone off the left wing to find Brett Chan whose header makes it a 4-zip San Estevan lead. A minute before regulation expires Ernesto Enrique Chable catches up with this rebound off goalkeeper Patt to smash it home for the Revolution goal as San Estevan goes on to post the 4-1 big W and moves on to the semi-final round with a 6-2 aggregate. Moving on also is Sinbad F.C. who beat Crystal F.C. 2-0 last week and drew 2-2 yesterday for the 3-2 aggregate win to the series. Progresso F.C. and Pumas of San Jose are still tied at a 2-2 score and will meet during this week to decide who makes it. Of course the best looser will also make the semi-final round so stay tuned as. Now let’s head to Birds Isle for Friday night’s IBL action as Sir Belikin took aim at Allied Insurance Abyssinians. Ty Bradley gets Belikin early in this ball game and would hit 13 points and pull 7 boards. Bradley then deals to Keith Acosta for 2 of his 16 game points. However the top scorer for Belikin tonight is Dorian Jones who would score a team high 24 points and pull 7 rebounds. At the end of the first Belikin leads 20-9. In the 2nd Abyssinians try to make a move, Paul Swasey moves up with the put back and would post a 2 doubles of 15 points, 15 boards. Earl Johnson then pays for this bucket with his body – he would put up 11 points tonight. It’s Paul Swasey with the rebound – and he tries the long past to Darwin Leslie who is double teamed and fouled yet he gets the shot to fall. Puppy Leslie would lead all scorers with 31 points and missed the 2 doubles by 1 rebound after pulling 9 in the outing. Abyssinians gets within 4 points in the 3rd quarter when Darwin Leslie licks down this triple. Leslie then comes back and makes it a 1 point game with another 3 pointer. After a score by Belikin, Leslie ties the ballgame at 54 apiece with another triple. However in the 4th quarter it’s all Belikin, Daniel Nolberto takes it all the way from half court for 2 of his 18 points. Sir Belikin goes on to post the 96 to 80 big W.
