Santa Elena woman caught w/ fake U.S. money
In other news from the west, a Santa Elena woman has been arrested and charged after she was found with a stack of funny money. According to police, forty-one year old Cruz Garnett was this afternoon charged with possession of counterfeit currency in connection with twenty-two fake U.S. hundred dollar bills. A town grocer took the phoney money to the cops on August tenth and alleged that Garnett had asked him to give her the equivalent Belize currency. But the shopkeeper got suspicious when he noticed that some of the bills carried the same serial numbers. When Garnett was picked up for questioning, she told investigators that she was paid the money by customers at her food vendor’s stall. The cops didn’t buy that story and when an official from the U.S. embassy confirmed that the cash wasn’t worth the paper they were printed on, Garnett was arrested. The Santa Elena resident appeared before a Magistrate this afternoon where the case was adjourned until next month.
