NEMO advises on location of Tropical Depression

Life for residents of southern Belize, who sought refuge at various shelters during the overnight passage of Tropical Depression Two, resumes normalcy, as the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) reports that most of those people are back at home.  At two o’clock this afternoon, TD2 was heading west-north-west away from Belize at approximately ten miles per hour over the Southern Bay of Campeche with maximum sustained winds at thirty miles per hour.  Residents of low-lying areas are warned, nonetheless, that flooding is likely to continue.  In the Stann Creek District, the Coastal Road remains closed and personnel from the Ministry of Works are on standby to repair temporary crossings and approaches near Mullins River which continues to be under twelve feet of water.  In Hope Creek, the water is ebbing fast and that section of the highway is no longer flooded.  Likewise, water in Dangriga and Sarawee is receding.  The Hopkins Road bypass near Sittee River is closed and is under two feet of water.  NEMO continues to respond to the flood situation and urges residents to stay tuned to the local radio and television stations for further advisories.
