Police officer charged for theft from detainee
A police officer has been accused of bringing dishonour to his badge. Thirty-two year old Constable Richard Arnold of Hattieville was today charged with Theft in connection with the taking of personal items from a criminal suspect he had detained. According to court reports, on July twenty-eighth Arnold took into custody one Kendale Oshon at the Queen Street police station. In the course of Oshon’s detention Arnold took away the prisoner’s gold chain and cell phone. The problem came when Oshon was released later that night and Arnold declined to return the chain and phone. Oshon reported the matter to the Police Internal Affairs Section and in the course of the investigation on August twenty-first an officer found Oshon’s jewellery at J.E.C.’s Pawn Shop. The chain had been pawned in Arnold’s own name. As for the cell phone, on the same day the chain was discovered Arnold handed it over to investigators. Arnold pleaded not guilty to the theft charge and was granted bail of five thousand dollars or two sureties of twenty-five hundred each.
