Jordan Village flooded in the south
In the wake of Tropical Depression Two, there have been reports of flooding in various parts of the country, particularly the low-lying areas within the Stann Creek and Toledo districts. While flood waters are receding in other parts, the village of Jordan, a relatively small community of fifty families in Toledo, is currently inundated. Access to Jordan has been difficult as the road remains under several feet of water. News Five understands that residents are awaiting personnel from the National Emergency Management Organization to respond to their situation as they have been isolated from the rest of the district. Wil Maheia, of PGTV, visited the area earlier today and shared with us video footage, as well as an update on the weather condition in that vicinity.

“The village itself is under water, the road is covered by a few feet of water. The Blue Creek Bridge this evening about three o’clock was impassable for most vehicles. The B.D.F. was on scene and they were trying to cross the river but it was too high; that was around three p.m. today. The river is rising a little bit; that would make it impossible for anybody to go to Jordan at this time…it’s like an island by itself.”

“Do you know if any official or personnel from NEMO has visited the area to get an assessment going as to what these people need or what the damages are or what have you?”

“Well I am not sure. When I was there, I didn’t see anybody so I cannot say whether they were there or not. But I know if they don’t have a helicopter or so, they can’t reach right now…at least as of three o’clock the evening.”

“You haven’t been able to speak with the chairman or someone who is responsible for the fifty families in that particular community?”

“What’s the weather condition like at the point you were leaving from the area?”

“Well it was very overcast and there was rains coming off and on…not heavy rain, but the weather remains overcast.”

“And that will of course affect whether the water recedes or rises?”

“Definitely. If more rain comes, it will rise…if no rains come, it will go down. But the way it is looking right now, it is like it will be there for a couple of days.”
