?Impossible is Nothing? will sponsor mountain bike race
Good evening. I?m James Adderley and we?re certainly glad you?ve been able to join us with this week?s delivery of Sports Monday. It?s week two of R.F.G. Football Cup Tournament on the front burner. So we take you out to the M.C.C. Grounds where Acros Lake is looking for a winner in its home opener against the Belmopan Bandits yesterday.
However it?s the visitors getting the first shot at goal, when Lionel Frazier misfires with this left foot.
The city team?s response comes from off this spot kick by Christopher Guild but Wilmer Cruz handles the launch.
Folks we?re only fifteen minutes into the ballgame when Jarbie Alvarez finds Ernest Wiltshire, and while it?s not a powerful shot its good enough to give the visitors a 1-zip lead.
Again Acros tries to answer from off the set piece triggered by David McCauly, but the goalkeeper intervenes.
It?s more Acros pressure when Jermaine Zuniga outruns the Bandits defence, and he should have done better with this opportunity.
Respect is due to Nigel Cayetano on this sudden left foot, but he?ll have to hit the target.
A minute later Delroy Andrews centres to Lorenzo Diaz. The spectacular shot does not come off. Nigel Cayetano does come up with possession and we have a tied ballgame twenty-seven minutes in. It would remain that way to the half time whistle.
In second half Gary Wiltshire gets the first chance to bust the 1-1 tie, but he squanders the opportunity.
Let?s just conclude Gary Wiltshire is not about to score today after he is botches this attempt by taking too long to strike.
Folks this sequence shows the determination of the Acros team in looking for the game winner, but it appears that it?s just one of those days as this ballgame settles into a 1-1 final score. In other action around the league Wagiya blanked Alpha 3-zip, while Hankook Verdes stunned F.C. Belize by that same score.
Peaking in on the Super League of Belize–and it is quite an eventful league I must say–this week play-off schedule finds the National Sports Council in action against B.P.F.L. Travellers. And B.T.L. battles Belikin on Wednesday?s schedule, while on Thursday Acros against B.D.F. and Kolbe Foundation faces Pratt?s Fry Chicken.
Turning to the National Guiness 8 Ball Pool Tournament, all six champions have emerged who are going to the big dance. Namely Advance Advertising of Belize District, Tijuana Bar of Orange Walk, the defending champion Challengers from Toledo returns, G.I. Unit of Corozal, Splinter Cell of Cayo and Third Base Lounge of Independence, Stann Creek. The section kicks off at ten a.m. inside the City Centre on the twenty-sixth and concludes on Sunday the twenty-seventh. It is a big time occasion so do enjoy.
In cricket news, the other finalist of the 2006 National Cricket Competition emerged over the weekend. On Saturday Excellence of Double Head Cabbage needed to surpass 182 runs posted by Wicked 11 of Flowers Bank in their turn at bat. Well, Sylbert Martinez struck for a massive 82 runs as Excellence was able to get the job done totalling 186 runs with 4 wickets to spare.
Excellence now faces Brilliant of Crooked Tree for the title in a three game series that gets of at Crooked Tree this Saturday.
Turning to the cycling scene we take you out by Leslie?s Imports for the start to the Impossible is Nothing premier race staged yesterday. We can tell you folks Mountain Biking in Belize has gone big time, big names and even bigger prizes. So let?s get busy as we head to mile twenty-one and back.
At mile four G.Perez steps up to seize the premier. Terrell Ferguson, showing no hands, captures the prize at mile eight. At mile sixteen?and it could be because its mile sixteen–Glen Do-Bad Smith steps out of this triangle like a pro to grab this station particular prize.
And at the turn around point Paul Trapp is the first to survive. Folks by the time this race reaches mile sixteen on the way back Paul Trapp remains on the lead, but he?s now being joined by Jose Delgado Castillo and Terrell Ferguson.
We?re now on our way to the tape. It?s Terrell Ferguson on the outside pushing the pace. There?s no challenge from the other two. Ferguson takes the win easily, Jose Castillo also known as Delgado picks up second and Paul Trapp third. Now here?s the sprint fourth place is Edward Payne edges out Glen Do-Bad Smith while and Robert Lopez finishes sixth.
In the meantime the big Impossible is Nothing Cycle Classic comes up this Sunday, August twenty-seventh, and we caught up with two of the event managers going into this particular presentation.
Karil Meighan, Event Manager
?This is one of the best races for the year. It?s taking place from Hershey on the Western Highway all the way to Marion Jones Complex. We will be giving station prizes along the way. Prizes are still popping in, so we won?t give a detailed list of the station prizes. But we are giving prizes at the top of Armenia Hill, the entrance of Belmopan, the George Price Boulevard, Gracie Rock, Hattieville and all the way into Belize City. Our sponsors are Medina House of Jewellery, Sunset View Hotel & Nightclub and Culture Tours.”
Alex Camel Haylock, Event Manager
?If you are interested in riding all you got to do is go to Ordonez Bike Shop, and he vets all the riders that are interested in riding. All you got to do is sign up, and if you are not scared just come out there because it is going to be one of the best races. We have Impossible is Nothing that won the last big race. We have Pratt?s Fry Chicken and Viper Tours; they have a lot of good riders. There are a lot of good riders out there, like Mr. Santino, he rode with us yesterday. We are inviting everybody to come out, because the proceeds from registration of this race will go to a children?s home in Belize City. The race will start at Hershey on the Hummingbird Highway and it will end at Marion Jones Stadium. After the big race is finished we will have events at the Marion Jones, so we are asking fans and everybody that rides to come out.?
Of course there is a saying in Belize: ?Step up or shut up!?
That?s it for now though. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah! Overall I am James Adderley.
