PASMO office burgled twice in one weekend
An NGO working to prevent the spread of AIDS in Belize has become the latest victim of burglary. The Pan American Social Marketing Organisation, PASMO, located at number nine Princess Margaret Drive, wasn’t hit just once this weekend, but twice. And according to Elisa Castellanos, PASMO’s Programmes Coordinator, the losses were major.

?What happened is basically over the weekend–on the eighteenth and the nineteenth, the Friday and the Saturday–we were burglarized twice. Between five Friday evening and the wee hours of the morning Saturday, the burglars came in through our stock room window, entered the building and just made off with two laptops. And then we made a report, we went to the police, got them to come and see the area. They saw what happened, took pictures and then we tried to contact the different security people to have somebody try to come in and look over the place, but we were unable to find somebody to give that order to send somebody over. So therefore, in the evening, between seven and eight thirty on Saturday these people came back and made off with more stuff–our digital cameras, DVD player, our flat screen computer and a few other items. We are unsure at this time of how many condoms they made off with, but we are sure they took some from the stock room and some other promotional items. Yes, it hurts that they went off with the laptop, but it hurts me on a deeper level that two years of my life is gone with this computer. And two years of our hard work is gone with this computer as well.?
Although a full inventory of missing items has not yet been completed, PASMO is estimating that the value of the stolen goods amounts to a little under twenty thousand dollars.
