Death near Benque looks like revenge killing
Meanwhile police in the west believe revenge is the motive for the shooting death of forty-six year old Igancio Nix Toj of El Naranjo, Guatemala. Police say the murder occurred at a farm in the Water Hole area south of Benque Viejo.
Upon arrival at the scene police found the farmer’s body lying on a bed with gunshot wounds to the chest and back of the head. Their investigations reveal that around eight forty on Monday night, three men believed to be Guatemalans arrived at the farm asking for food. The visitors were served but twenty minutes later one of the men held up Nix and shot him in the neck and mouth killing him on the spot.
Authorities say the slaughter took place in front of the dead man’s wife and seven children. Following the shooting the men then departed along a feeder road that leads to Arenal Village. According to police, while living in Guatemala in 1998, Nix was shot during a robbery attempt. Three days later the man who shot him was found dead. If Nix’s murder was indeed revenge it would mean that his killers waited eight years to settle what was by now a very old score.
