Placencia boat collision leaves woman dead
A boating accident in the Placencia Lagoon over the weekend has left one woman dead. According to investigators, fifty-six year old Josefa Gomez was one of five people fishing from the skiff “Estrellitas” around two on Sunday afternoon when it was involved in a collision with another boat. It is believed that Gomez was struck by a propeller, leaving her with a large cut wound to the head. She was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The captain of the other vessel, thirty-eight year old Hank Rhamdas has reported that there was no way to avoid the accident as it happened around a curve and the other boat was on his side of the channel. Independence police have detained Rhamdas pending the outcome of their investigations.
