Cadet Corps launches recruitment drive

This week, the National Youth Cadet Service Corps launched a recruitment drive, calling on at risk youths to enlist in its ten month programme. According to officials, they’ve got the patience it takes to turn problem children into constructive citizens.

?It has a disciplinary component which comes with the military background, the boot camp phase of it. We are emphasizing an academic component; we want to give people the basic academic subjects, Math, English, Social Studies, Science. We do vocational and technical skills; we are also adding a very heavy sporting component to it. So whatever skill these young people have, whether it is just the basic academics, we want to foster and enhance that, if they had athletic abilities, we want to develop that. If they have vocational/technical skills, we want to develop that. Our programme runs for one year with the intention to go and evolve into two years, starting with this present intake. So we want to foster all those little skills that these people have. We?ll be doing a lot of life skills subject, conflict resolution, leisure management, anger management, all the various basic life skills and personal development skills will be tagged into this programme. For the first time in the history of this programme we are having females as a part of this intake. We are looking for about a hundred and twenty five young people to come.?
