Ten cent stamp tax finally abolished
It’s an irritating tradition that dates back well into the colonial era … but as of July first it’s history. I’m talking about the ten cent stamp that’s legally required on all receipts over ten dollars. According to a release from the Ministry of Finance, as part of the tax reforms surrounding the implementation of G.S.T. that ten cent stamp duty has been abolished. The same holds true for entertainment tax. The only instance in which both levies are payable is if the goods or services were supplied prior to July first. All government departments, statutory bodies, financial institutions and utility companies are asked to please take note.
