Toledo man charged in chopping/shooting death

A brutal chopping incident in the Toledo District has left one man dead and another behind bars. According to police they were told by forty-six year old Alejandro Ical that around four thirty Friday evening, Ical was walking home from his farm near Forest Home when he was attacked by a man armed with a shotgun and a machete. That man has since been identified as thirty-four year old Barrington Cofius. Ical told police that while trying to evade his attacker’s advances, he took his own machete and delivered a chop wound to Cofius’ head. When Cofius dropped the gun Ical says he picked up the weapon and fired a single shot at his assailant. Ical fled the scene but later went to the Punta Gorda police to file a report. Authorities later found Cofius’ body. Police are sceptical of Ical’s story and have since arrested and charged him with Murder.
