Two charged for incest, rape in O.W.

Stories of sexual assault are hardly unusual on this newscast but the case recounted today by police is one of the most disturbing we have ever seen. Basically it involves a fifteen year old girl in Orange Walk who alleges that she was raped by her father. This was not the first time the charge of incest had been levelled at the man as he had previously been arrested for the same crime–with the same daughter–and released on bail … with funds provided by the girl’s mother! The tale would be a tragic one if it ended here … but it didn’t. According to the teenager, when her mother failed to stop the abuse she ran away from home, spending one night at an abandoned house frequented by drug dealers, the other at the home of a thirteen year old boy she knew. In both cases she claims to have been raped again, on the second occasion by the father of her thirteen year old friend. That man–the only one guidelines protecting rape victims allow us to name–is thirty-nine year old Jaime Pech and he has been arrested and charged with Rape, Indecent Assault and Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Also arrested and charged with Incest is the girl’s forty year old father. Both men have been denied bail and remanded to Hattieville Prison pending their next hearing. Police are also looking for a third suspect. And the alleged victim? The Social Services Department has placed her back home with her mother, where it is hoped that both will be offered some serious counselling.
