Amazing sporting highlights on Sports Monday

Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday.

The decisive game 5 between Telemedia and Fresca Lady Rebels took center stage inside Rogers Stadium Friday evening as the winner would walk away with the 2013 Belize City Female Softball Championship. We pick up the action in the bottom of the 1st with 2 out and 2 on as Ruth lamb faces Lanisha Jones. Lamb hits a dribbler to Sharette Vernon that should have been a routine out instead Vernon fires a wild throw to 1st that allows Earline Baptist to score from 3rd and Mary Flowers all the way from 1st. We’re in the 2nd when Lydia Cacho, who has the best batting record this season gets this ball over the infield as Kyle McFadzean scores from 2nd base for the 3-zip B.T.L. lead. The next batter, Erlene Baptist, jumps on this pitch from Lanisha Jones to bring home Lydia Cacho from 2nd based to make it a 4-nil lead going into the 3rd.

Jones gets out of the inning when Mary Flowers produces this pop fly that Sharette Vernon stays with to come up with the 3rd out. In the 3rd, Kenisha Sutherland on the mound for Telemedia proved too much for lady Rebels and here she gets Lanisha Jones to unleash a fly ball easily handled by Elaine Humes. Sutherland then gets Clarencia Jones for the next out with this rollers just past the infield that is handled easily. And then Sharette Vernon suffers the same fate as Fresca go out 1, 2, 3 in their turn at bat. We’re in the bottom of the 4th when Erlene Baptist comes up with this timely hit that allows Kyle McFadzean to score run # 5 from 2nd base. And then Barbara Cadle smashes this pitch from Lanisha all the way to the wall as Erlene Baptist brings home run the 6th run – Cadle tries to reach 3rd, but Mary Flowers could not aid her teammate die to injuries. Flowers got on base whne she was hit by this pitch from Lanisha Jones and has to be relieved at 3rd by Martha Rhys because of the increasing pain of that blow.

Nevertheless, Kenisha Sutherland breezes through the 5th, 6th and 7th inning without conceding a run to blank Fresca Lady Rebels in a 6-nil final score. We say congratulations to the Telemedia Team who defended their Belize City title in impressive fashion. This is the out that gives B.T.L. the big Win. Sutherland deals, Lanisha Jones swings, Martha Rhys in left field cleans things up and the party begins. Nevertheless, Fresca Lady Rebels walked away with the individual awards. Lanisha Jones took home the most wins, while Sharette Vernon walked away with MVP honors, most stolen bases and most runs batted in. meanwhile B.T.L.’s Norecia Frazier had the most home runs and her teammate, Lydia Cacho produced the highest batting average with a .475 average. Congrats to one and all.

In results from the Belize Rural, Easy Does It embarrassed Village Gyal 25 to 1, Buttercup bombed Arrows Reloaded 15 to 4 and Mel’s United burned UB Jaguars 9-8.

In volleyball news, here are Saturday’s stats: Lady Jaguars rolled over Moen Stars 25-22, 23-25, 210-25, 25-18 and 15-10 in female playoff action. And the Interoffice Level Simon Quan handled the Police 25-20, 25-26 and Belize Bank beat First Caribbean Bank 25-16, 25-13. In the male nightcap, Rebels roughed up Simon Quan Dragon 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 in 3 identical sets.

Turning to the football scene, the finals of CONCACAF’s Gold Cup was staged yesterday at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois between the United States and Panama. This 69th minute goal from Brehn Shea fresh off the bench is the sole goal of the match which gives the U.S. the 1-nil victory and the 2013 title.

Finally folks, the F.F.B.’s female inter-district competition continues to roll as yesterday Ladyville Jaguars hosted Suga City Girls. In the early going, Sheree Gillette fires this grass burner to open the scoreboard in Ladyville favour but Jenny Canton handles. It’s Ladyville jaguars again on the attack when Kara Kisling picks Ruby Mai’s pocket only to be denied by Canton in goal. At the other end, Crisel Baeza works her magic to get off this shot at goal but Emelda Alarcon does her job in goal. It’s more Suga City when Noreily Leroy is taken down inside the 18 by Britney Nunez and the referee rules penalty. Karen Garcia of Suga City steps up and fires the ball too close to Emelda Alarcon who makes the save. At the half it’s a scoreless ballgame. Some 20 minutes into 2nd half Crisel Baeza outruns Kara Kisling for this open look at goal and she slices it past Alarcon for the 1-zip Suga City lead. Ladyville looks for the equalizer when Sarah Arzu hooks up with Kara Kisling who should have put this one in the back of the net. However, Arzu amends when she triggers this set piece from long distance that beats Canton to force the 1-1 final score.

Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
