Man charged after shooting to protect grandson…

Story PictureThe family of Crooked Tree resident, fifty-eight year old Mervin Bood, gathered at the Magistrates’ Court on Thursday as he was arraigned on a number of charges. And they were not a happy group because they feel that Bood was being wrongfully charged for an incident that occurred last Friday. Bood’s twelve year old grandson went to fetch water and was met by a man who claimed he came all the way from Corozal and was selling clothes. At his request, the child helped him with his bags, not knowing that he was assisting an alleged robber to carry his loot. The act of kindness soon led to full blown chaos as the two were ambushed by three men who emerged from a yellow Mercedez Benz wielding machetes and a baseball bat. Bood came to his grandchild’s rescue with his licensed point twenty-two rifle, only to find himself in trouble with the law, although no one was harmed. Bood’s wife, Gloria, told News Five what transpired as her grandson made his way home.
