Motive unclear in Ladyville slaying
The weekend’s third homicide occurred on Saturday night in Ladyville. News Five’s Alyssa Noble reports.
Alyssa Noble, Reporting
Police, tonight, are still investigating a shooting that has left thirty-nine year old Emerson Elijio of Ladyville, dead.
I.S.P. Chris Noble, Ladyville Police Department
?The information that we have is that Saturday sometime after eight p.m., there was a call of a shooting incident on Jackson Avenue in Ladyville. The police responded at a house there where they met a gentleman. Apparently he had been shot, and he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there. Our investigation into the matter is still ongoing and we are looking at several angles, none of which have been confirmed, and that is the way that it remains.?
According to Inspector Chris Noble, besides no definite motive, police also don?t know who they are looking for.
Alyssa Noble
?Three of them were masked, one was unmasked. You?re looking for four male suspects? If you could tell me more information, if you have more information on the people you are looking for??
Chris Noble
?No, we do not at present have any information on the persons exactly we are looking for. We know that we may be looking for four or more persons.?
And while the case has police seemingly perplexed, residents from around the area are not and believe that the murder was a setup as Elijio was not alone at the time of shooting, but was accompanied by his ex-wife, Martha Odette Palma, with whom he shared a history of violence.
Neighbour
?About seven o?clock I come to my bally house, Jackson, and to my desire when I here somebody in the house holler ?Yeh?, nobody neva wah believe that somebody maybe mi deh behind the yard. And to my desire and thing, I feel that to my homeboy, dah wah setup inside ah di house. No kinda drugs Jackson deh ina, no kind. Nothing, nothing!?
Though he may not have been involved with drugs, Elijio had previously been charged with attempted murder after he fractured Palma?s jaw with a two by four, and for arson, after he set fire to his brother-in-law?s van. He was set free on both charges. Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the murder, please contact the nearest police station.
