Confusion over G.S.T. on light bills should soon end
It appears that some progress is being made to redress the inequities that have arisen in the application of G.S.T. to electricity bills. The problem arises from B.E.L.’s decision to apply the ten percent tax on all bills issued after July first, even though the bulk of the electricity was delivered prior to that date, the day G.S.T. came into effect. According to G.S.T. chief Beverly Castillo, there appears to be some conflict in different sections of the law, but told News Five this afternoon that by tomorrow a solution should be worked out. Until that credit or refund mechanism is established, we once again advise consumers to refrain from paying their bills.
