Hyde supports Espat in P.U.P. shoot-out

Story PictureWhen we last visited the dispute over who should run the Corozal Free Zone–not to mention the People’s United Party and nation of Belize–P.U.P. Leader Emeritus George Price had put a lashing on outspoken Minister Mark Espat. Today, Espat’s brother-in-law and fellow minister offered his thoughts on the conflict.

Cordel Hyde, Minister of Youth and Sports
?I think it?s an unfortunate situation where the Leader Emeritus and the leader Mark Espat exchanged letters. I thought that was private conception. It wasn?t designed to be made public. So I think the persons who divulged those letters to the public, the letter from the senior minister to Minister Espat, I think were unfortunate. I am sure he didn?t not write that for public consumption. I think that some of these persons who are so called members of the old P.U.P., I think they are caught in a time warp where they could just roll out the Leader Emeritus and all the problems within the party will be solved. This is a different time. I think people are far more independent, far more progressive and far more agitated by the things that are happening and very upset about the policies that have gotten us to this point.?

Despite his disdain for the “old P.U.P.,” Hyde’s prescription for curing the party’s ills is for the P.U.P. to get back to its roots.
