Man accused of assaulting a cop
The owner of a bar in Belize City is out on bail after he was charged for assaulting a special constable. Twenty-nine year old Lennox Stevens appeared before Magistrate Leslie Hamilton today and was read two charges – one for assaulting a police officer and another for using threatening words. It is alleged that on Saturday while near the Shell One Stop gas station Stevens cursed at Special Constable Gerald Smith, who was on mobile patrol. When Smith approached him, Stevens allegedly tried to run, and punched Smith in the chest when he was being apprehended. Stevens pleaded not guilty to both charges and was offered bail in the sum of one thousand dollars plus a surety in the same amount. He is to reappear in court on September twenty-third, 2013.
