Bike thief shot by victim, gets 5 yrs. in jail
A Belize City burglar picked the wrong house to teef … and now he’s got five years to think about it. Twenty-three year old Sheldon Lewis was this afternoon found guilty of burglary by Magistrate Dorothy Flowers. Shortly after midnight on the morning of May twentieth, W.P.C. Joan Grinage was awakened by the barking of her dogs. She looked out into her yard only to see Lewis leaving with her beach cruiser bicycle. The constable set off in pursuit, armed with her twenty-five calibre pistol, and eventually caught up with the intruder. When she ordered him to stop, however, he refused … and that’s when she shot him in the foot. Lewis was convicted of burglary and sentenced to five years at Hattieville.
