Jaguars and Tiger Sharks even in basketball finals
Good evening. I?m James Adderley and you?ve just jumped aboard the express we call Sports Monday. The San Pedro Tiger Sharks swam into Capital City, Belmopan Friday night in a bid to close out the fifth game semi-basketball championship series after going 2-zip out at the Island over the University of Belize Jaguars.
And at the tip off its Jeff Clifton jumping against Ernest Broaster and we?re in game three of semi-pro basketball championship.
Clifton assumes the role of passer on this press by finding Lennox Bowman who gives U.B. two off the glass.
Darren Bovell then finds Bowman who misses here so Bovell converts his mode to offence and he gets two. He would finish with fifteen points.
At the end of the first the University leads 20-11.
In the second quarter, it?s more of the same. Jeff Clifton has one man to beat and he does what he has to do for two. Clifton would bed his team with the game high with twenty-nine points. When Bowman hits this bucket the U.B. lead is extended to eighteen.
Bowman would help his team with sixteen game points. At the half the lead is 40-20.
In the third quarter San Pedro tries to come back. Lawrence Culver gets the fill in his office, and he gets two as San Pedro would cut the deficit to ten at the end of three.
We?re in the fourth quarter when Culver goes against Jeff Clifton to bank it off the glass for two.
In the meantime we?re not certain what led to this particular altercation between Lawrence Culver and Claude ?Too Tall? Jones, but as you can see ?Too Tall? gets the worst of it. He falls unconscious to the floor after being hit by Culver. Unfortunately, we caught only the reaction and no the action itself.
After much assistances Claude eventually returns to the land of the lining, but not to the ballgame. While his counterpart Lawrence Culver is ejected for his lack of self-control.
When the ballgame resumes the fire had gone out. The Tiger Sharks who loses game three 79-61, to make it a 2-1 series.
This brings us to game four on Saturday San Pedro still needs a win to claim the 2006 title. Of course tonight the Tiger Sharks must do without the services of suspended Lawrence Culver.
The San Pedranos come out firing. Stephen Williams strikes for three; he would lead his team with eighteen points. Ferguson then finds Keith Acosta in traffic and he delivers for S.P. He would finish with ten points.
Nevertheless, Jeff Clifton puts his team on his back. He gets two here and would finish with the game high of twenty-one points.
At the end of the first it?s a 23-15 lead in favour of the Tiger Sharks.
Folks we?re in the fourth quarter when Byron ?Shackles? Flowers strikes for two as U.B. takes a five point lead.
Make it a seven point lead when Flowers hits again. With fifty-five seconds to go Keith Acosta is victimized by the flagrant foul.
He misses the first but sinks the second to make it a two point deficit ballgame.
Ernest Broaster, who would finish with sixteen points, then gets two shots form the free throw line to the core. He gets one of two.
U.B. Jaguars go on to win 56-53, and ties the series at two wins a piece. The decisive game five now comes up at eight p.m. on Friday July fourteenth, out at the Island. And I bet if you are a basketball fan you won?t miss this one.
In Billiard news, action in the Guiness 8 Ball Pool Tournament on Friday saw M.J.?s manoeuvre past Copa 6-4. Mike?s Club shocked Shooters 10-nil. On Saturday it was M.J.?s with a 10-nil win over El Paso while Advance took out Triangle 8-2. Thus this Thursday Shooters visit Copa and Triangle goes to Lion King, while on Friday Triangle meets M.J.?s and EL Paso hops to Copa.
Turning to the Cycling scene Adrian Faux continued his great run in Belizean Cycling in 2006 by winning the B.C.A.?s mile twenty-eighth race presented on the Western Highway on Saturday in 1 hour 9 minutes 42 seconds. He beat out Keith Enright and Colin Maheia who pulled up second and third respectively.
Hey folks that?s our show for tonight. We certainly invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah, over all I am James Adderley.
