Masked men torture caye resident for drugs

Authorities are tonight searching for three suspects following an attack on Calabash Caye over the weekend. In his statement to police, fifty-one year old caretaker William Ysaguirre reported that around eight thirty on Saturday night, three masked men arrived at his house and held everyone inside hostage. The men immediately tied up his son, Devon Castillo, and began to torture him with a heated knife. The perpetrators wanted drugs, cocaine rumoured to have been found by Castillo. When the young man didn’t produce the square grouper, his attackers took him outside with the apparent intention of shooting him. But once on the sand, Castillo took his chance of escape and hotfooted it into the mangrove. Determined not to leave empty handed, the masked men robbed Ysaguirre’s wife of five hundred dollars before disappearing into the darkness.

In related news, separate incidents in Cayo and Corozal have left two men charged with drug trafficking.

According to police, around one thirty on Friday afternoon, officers of special forces searched a house on Second Street in San Ignacio and found ninety-three packets of crack cocaine, two packages of marijuana and a small amount of powder cocaine.
