Appeals court upholds murderer?s life sentence
A convicted murderer’s plea to have his life sentence thrown out was denied today in the Court of Appeal. Philip Tillett was convicted for the June 2003 murder of Kirk Lee Gentle during a fight inside the walls of the Hattieville Prison. But Tillett and his attorney Leo Bradley Junior attempted to convince the Justices that there were discrepancies in the evidence used against the accused. Bradley’s case was based on three main points, arguing there was contradiction in exactly who had picked up the murder weapon, which prison officer had detained his client and even who was wearing which clothes. To this Justice Boyd Carey replied, “Whether the man had on a one foot pants or a tuxedo, it didn’t matter, because they held onto him then and there”. Justices Carey, Elliot Mottley and Manuel Sosa then upheld the conviction and affirmed the life sentence handed down by the Supreme Court.
