Committee planning major bashment for September
The official September Celebrations calendar kicks off on the thirty-first of August and runs to the twenty-second of September. And though it may seem premature, the National September Celebrations Committee is already in “Bashment” mode, ready and rearing to go. According to Daedra Haylock, Public Relations Officer for the Committee, they are working to ensure that there is no shortage of fun and festivities as Belizeans celebrate twenty-five years of Independence.

?The calendar is getting packed. There?s hardly any day that does not have an activity, and we are very pleased about that because well this is the twenty-fifth anniversary. We want to hype it, we want it to be good and so we want everybody to participate. We want it to be something that is representational of Belize, of Belizean culture and Belizean lifestyle and just generally how Belizeans live.?
?You may have seen in the newspapers, us asking people to submit activities for inclusion on the calendar. And also because the committee has a very broad cross section of representing organizations and groups, they have submitted their activities for inclusion on the calendar as well. We also ask people to submit their recommendations for a theme for the September celebrations. We want it to be representational of both the St. George?s Caye Day, two hundred and eighth anniversary and the twenty-fifth anniversary of our independence.?
If you are interested in submitting a theme for this year’s celebrations, you still have a couple more days to get it in, this Friday to be exact. All entries must be ten words or less and should be submitted to the Belize Tourism Board located at the New Horizon Building on the Northern Highway. The prize for the winning theme is a thousand dollars.
