Deplorable road condition at Consejo Shores, Corozal
Residents of Consejo Shores in the Corozal District are tonight complaining about the deplorable road condition and sanitation problems they are presently facing, as a result of heavy rains in the north recently. Footage provided by Carol Wildman shows that flooding in the area has caused waste at the nearby dumpsite to spill on to the road, which is constructed of clay and lime. During the wet season the spillage across the Consejo/Corozal Road brings with it large amounts of floating debris. According to Wildman, a resident of Consejo Shores, the overflow, including feces, animal carcasses, as well as toxic liquids such as battery acid, are posing serious health and environmental hazards to the community. The eight-mile stretch of road is failing to withstand heavy vehicular traffic and is reportedly preventing further development in the area by deterring potential investors. Residents of the community are appealing to the area representative, as well as the Ministry of Works to address the matter urgently.
