Man wanted for chopping and shooting in San Pedro

Luis Castellanos

San Pedro Police today issued an all-points bulletin for McLean August, a man wanted in connection with a chopping and a shooting which resulted in injuries to three persons – two of them minors. The chopping occurred on Tuesday and the shooting occurred on Wednesday. The root of both incidents was a parrot, which was assaulted by a man for no good reason. It seems complicated, but it’s not, and Officer Commanding the San Pedro Police Formation Superintendent Luis Castellanos broke it down for News Five today.

Supt. Luis Castellanos, OC, San Pedro Police Formation

“On the eighteenth of September 2013, at about eleven forty-five a.m., we received information of a shooting in front of the Tropic Office near the airstrip. As a result of that, we visited the polyclinic whereby we found three persons suffering from gunshot wounds—a minor by the name of Pedro Velasquez, twelve years of age Belizean student of Escalante sub-division layout. And he was suffering from an abrasion to the right forearm and the right side of his hip. Also we met a young boy by the name of Juan Diego Kutch, eleven years of age, who was also suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the right leg. And we were also informed by the doctor that he had a bullet lodged in the right leg. And also Rudolfo Cawich, thirty-two years Belizean carpenter, who had abrasions to the right side of his arm. As a result the investigation reveal that apparently Cawich was coming on the street and upon reaching in front of the airport, he approached the gentleman with whom he had a misunderstanding from the night before and as a result a struggle ensued in which the firearm was discharged and injuring the persons. It apparently started because of a bird. This gentleman Cawich has a parrot, a tamed parrot and apparently the night before , he was driving near Marina Tours and the brother of McClain August, whose name is Justin August, apparently was frustrated for some unknown reason and he just bat off the bird from where the gentleman had him on his hand. An alteration arose there and as a result McClain intervened and chopped the gentleman on his arm.”

Police had been seeking August in relation to that chopping, but Cawich caught up to August first on Wednesday and tried to take matters into his own hands. According to Superintendent Castellanos, August, who is a resident of Cayo, is no stranger to Police and was recently released from prison. Police believe that he has left the island and is heading west, but say they are confident he will be arrested very soon. August is considered armed and dangerous and Police say he is travelling with a nine mm pistol.
