Belmopan hole is dry, says oil company
The company was on a hot streak, batting four for four in its search for oil at Spanish Lookout. Today, however, Belize Natural Energy announced that its latest effort–the re-opening of a well drilled almost thirty years ago in Belmopan–has come up dry. According to a B.N.E. release, over a four day period they reached a depth of two thousand seventy feet but did not encounter any petroleum. The well, originally named Roaring Creek number two, has been plugged and abandoned. In response to concerns from area residents, the company has stated that if it does eventually find oil in Belmopan, production will not commence until a field gathering pipeline and storage complex has been put in place. That facility would be subject to approval by the Department of Environment and Belmopan City Council.
