3 persons detained for the fatal stabbing of student, Darrel Wade

Darrel Wade

Orange Walk Police believe that they have solved the vicious murder of a high school student that happened in broad daylight on Tuesday. Eighteen year old Darrel Wade, originally from Biscayne Village, had just left New Hope High School when he was attacked and stabbed in front of a local vendor on Stadium Street in Orange Walk Town. The incident occurred at around three-thirty, and a critically wounded Wade was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital by a vendor. Medical personnel tried desperately to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries one hour after. That’s the incident in a nutshell, and Police believe they have put together most of the pieces of the fatal puzzle, including the person who stabbed Wade in the chest three times.

“The initial investigation conducted by the Crimes Investigation Branch Orange Walk revealed that sometime around that time, about three, three-thirty pm, the victim Darrel Wade was walking on Stadium Street when he came across two persons who the Police already have in custody. The information we have thus far is that they were engaged in an exchange of words which led to a confrontation and it is strongly suspected that one of the persons we have in custody inflicted the injuries that I have mentioned earlier causing the death of Darrel Wade. We received information of the persons involved in the stabbing and as a result we checked with our intelligence office and the officers knew exactly where they lived, where they could be located. As a result they launched an operation which resulted in the apprehension of these two persons. It was nothing difficult. They arrived at the house and he was there and he came in willingly with the Police. After the person was taken into custody he cooperated with the Police and yes, subsequent to that the Police were able to retrieve what it is believed to be the murder weapon. It is a butcher knife, eleven inches in length including the handle. So we have that in custody. That is part of our exhibits. It will be forwarded to the forensic lab for their analysis and for a proper examination.”

Police have three persons detained at this time. They believe that twenty-five year old Keith Gaynair is the man who inflicted the stab wounds. In addition they are questioning Gaynair’s younger brother and a female. While the officers would not comment on the motive at this time, it is alleged that Wade was murdered as a result of a previous altercation. A post mortem examination will be conducted shortly, and Police say they are consulting with the office of the DPP for instructions on charges to be levied.
