Kevin Burgess behind bars following domestic dispute
A Ladyville resident is tonight behind bars following a domestic dispute with his common-law-wife. Thirty-three year old Kevin Burgess is accused of stealing three hundred dollars from the mother of his children, Deidra Pratt, as well as damaging her cell phone. The incident allegedly occurred on August sixth, but it was not until today that Burgess appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stewart. He was read two criminal charges; one count of Theft and one count of Damage to Property. Burgess wasted no time and pleaded guilty to both offenses. He then explained to Magistrate Stewart that he only broke Pratt’s phone because she had broken the glass on his car. He further explained to the court that he only held on to the three hundred dollars for insurance, but that he gave her back the money and has already bought her back a new phone. Burgess told the court that Pratt was outside the courtroom with the baby and that she wanted to withdraw the charges. But Pratt never appeared and hence Magistrate Stewart entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Burgess. Bail, however, was refused because Burgess’ records show that he owed the court four hundred and fifty dollars. The case was adjourned until October thirty-first.
