Summer sessions will sharpen students for high school
As part of our efforts to offer parents and children options for making summer vacation more productive, we’ve been highlighting various programmes around the country. One such initiative is being conducted by the Fort George Community Resource Centre in coordination with three high school teachers. The educators will be conducting classes in math, English and computer applications. According to computer lecturer Louis Underwood, the sessions are an opportunity for students who did not perform well on the P.S.E. to improve on their skills as they enter high school.
Louis Underwood, Computer Teacher
?One of our missions for this summer is to get the youths from primary school to bridge the gap between primary and secondary. Sometimes they need the techniques of maybe mathematics to learn to do their mathematics in a much faster fashion. Also they need to do their work generated by computers, so we will teach them the little basic Microsoft Word, Excel, whatever. And in addition to that, we?ll offer other classes such as English courses.?
The deadline for registration is July sixth. Cost is twenty-five dollars per child. The courses commence on July tenth and run through the twenty-eighth at the Fort George Community Resource Centre at the corner of Queen Street and Gabourel Lane. For further information call 227-5721.
