Summer courses offer extra help for primary schoolers

Story PictureFriday was the last day of exams for most primary schools and while students will have to wait another two weeks to receive their report cards, there are already plans underway to assist those who may be struggling with math and reading. The students are being encouraged to take advantage of a six week programme to bring them up to speed. Peter Lacey, a graduate of S.J.C. Junior College, is the programme’s coordinator.

Peter Lacey, Programme Coordinator
?I am having a standard three, four and five summer programme. For standard two students going into standard three, standard three students going into standard four and standard four students going into standard five. These are for students who are having difficulty with Reading and Mathematics. And this year we are having an environmental education course that will be implemented into the summer programme to promote environmental awareness. This summer programme is sponsored by PACT, Protected Areas Conservation Trust, especially through the Executive, Director Mr. Valdemar Andrade, and the Grants Director, Ms. Yvette Alonzo.?

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
“How long have you been having these summer programmes? And what has the response been like?”

Peter Lacey
?This is the third year I am having this summer programme. And I have always had a wonderful turn out. This year I am projecting to have fifty students from each standard come to the programme.?

If you are interested in having your child attend the summer programme, please contact Peter Lacey at telephone numbers 622-9317 or 203-4105. Final day for registration is June thirtieth. The session cost sixty dollars.
