Authorities will look closely at missing teen case
The recent incident involving a thirteen year old primary school student who left home on an errand but did not return home until two days later is one of many cases involving minors now confronting law enforcement officials. Police commissioner Gerald Westby says he is very concerned about the case where investigations have revealed that the young girl stayed two nights at a home where adult men resided. Westby says if their investigation reveals that the child was held hostage or abused they will be making arrests.
Gerald Westby, Police Commissioner
?We have been working with the Human Services and we have suspects that we are working on, so we should have some results before the day ends. We will continue to vigorously pursue this case, but I think it is a matter of education. We need to promote more education between the police, the human service and other concerned agencies. Because you know too often our young ladies and young men are being abused for some reason or the other. It is a social problem that needs to be addressed.?
?The C.I.B. has a reputation for doing their job promptly and vigorously. And I am certain at the end of the day they will make their findings public. But just give us some time to let us investigate.?
While on the subject of investigations, the police commissioner admitted that while no arrests have been made in the attacks on tourists in Cayo, the search for the criminals remains very much on the front burner.
