ICA offers creative summer programmes
It’s the beginning of summer, that time of the year when parents are wondering what they can do to keep the children occupied. Well, over the course of the next few weeks we’ll try to offer a few solutions. Yesterday, NICH announced that through the Institute of Creative Arts it will be hosting its second annual Expressive Arts Summer Programmes. The fun kicks off in July and William Neal, Director of ICA, let us in on the details.
William Neal, ICA Director
?Last year, Carlos Perrote did the drumming for children and for adults and that went very, very well, so we decided that its one program that will definitely continue. And this year he wanted to go into Steel Band music because he thought that would be something different. Then we have Jamie Thompson who will going away for a one week intensive dance workshop and he wants to return and share some of that with people as well.?
?And then finally, we have the Eder Alamilla art camp, which is something that is more of a somber topic but a very good camp. Last year we had about two hundred children run for the two weeks. We?re not sure about the exact numbers, but again it will be done in collaboration with the Alamilla family.?
?Each one of these people who are the facilitators are bringing something new and different to the table. And I think its going to be a very good opportunity, very low cost for any child to come and spend sometime in an area or a discipline that maybe they?ve always had an interest, but have not spent the time yet. And if you have, it?s a good chance to tighten your skills as well.?
The drumming and art sessions will run from the twenty-fourth of July to the fourth of August, while the steel band and dance programmes will run from August seventh to the eighteenth. Children between the ages of five and fifteen are encouraged to attend and explore their creative talents. Registration forms are available at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts. There is a fee of twenty-five dollars per child for each course.
