GSU sting operation yields 100 pounds of weed

A sting operation over the weekend conducted by the GSU has yielded a whopping one hundred pounds of cannabis. The unit arrested Anibal Garcia of Arenal Village, Cayo District along with Sergio Vega, a taxi-driver of New Area, Benque Viejo. Both were preparing to supply the weed to a purported buyer on Sunday when the unit intercepted the taxi proceeding from the Spanish Lookout Road into the Buena Vista Road. Inside the vehicle were Vega and Garcia while a third person, Gustavo Ruiz Junior, was seated on the rear seat of the car. The taxi stopped on the Buena Vista Road where the trio exited the vehicle and extracted two large parcels from inside the bushes just off the feeder road. According to the GSU, Vega and Garcia quickly boarded the taxi leaving Ruiz Junior and the two sacks of drugs behind; this was in an attempt to evade the authorities. Ruiz Junior was detained and the drugs seized. The GSU also set chase behind the taxi and caught up with Vega and Garcia. Both Garcia and Vega were charged for Offering to Supply a Controlled Drug and along with Ruiz Junior, the three were charged for Supplying a Controlled Drugs and Possession of a Controlled Drug with Intent to Supply.  The GSU believes that the trio is part of a ring supplying cannabis to drug traffickers in Belize City from Arenal, Cayo.
