Couple charged with rape of 9 year old girl

Just when you thought that recent incidents of sexual assault on minors had reached the lowest depths of depravity, along comes a case that can only make us weep with shame. Today in Magistrate’s Court thirty-three year old Wilfred Gillett was charged with six counts of rape and six counts of carnal knowledge, while his common-law wife, thirty-four year old Beverly Simpson, was arraigned on a similar number of charges for abetment to rape and carnal knowledge. According to court reports, the nine year old would routinely visit Simpson’s house, where it is alleged that on separate occasions, beginning April twenty-eighth, Simpson would hold the little girl down while her partner would rape her. At some point the child told her mother who reported the matter to authorities. In court today, prosecutor Jackie Willoughby objected to bail for the duo, stating that it would leave the door open for the accused to interfere with the minor. Magistrate Sharon Fraser agreed and remanded the couple to Hattieville prison. It was also revealed in court today that this is not the first time that Gillett has been brought up on charges with regard to the same child.
