Lloyd Elijio found guilty of the attempted murder of Mark Lord
A jury of five men and four women today convicted twenty-two year old Lloyd Elijio of Belize City for the attempted murder of Mark Lord in October of 2009 in the Supreme Court of Justice Troadio Gonzalez. Elijio was accused of shooting Lord in the chest around twelve-thirty in the afternoon of October twenty-fifth, 2009 while he was walking on Hyde’s Lane heading towards Barrack Road. The jury deliberated for three hours before arriving at a guilty verdict. Elijio testified during the trial and used an alibi defense, saying that at the time of the incident he was eating at his grandmother’s home on Morning Glory Street. He called one witness in support of his story but that witness said he only saw Elijio about an hour after the incident was alleged to have taken place. Crown Counsel Sheiniza Smith prosecuted and Elijio had no attorney and represented himself. He will return to court for sentencing on November fourth.
