CWU formally booted from N.T.U.C.B.

On Monday, the Christian Workers Union was formally booted out of its umbrella organization, following a failed congress over the weekend which should have seen the ouster of President Antonio Gonzalez and well as General Secretary, James McFoy.  The CWU’s expulsion from the National Trade Union Congress of Belize succeeds a stern warning issued last Monday mandating that a general assembly be held on October twenty-sixth to elect new executives, as previously agreed.  That decision, according to a statement issued by the N.T.U.C.B. earlier today, is the result of separate instances during which the CWU was unsuccessful in meeting its obligations.  Sealing the deal was the paltry turnout of union members for the congress last Saturday.  Notwithstanding the dismissal, the N.T.U.C.B. says it will continue to monitor the Christian Workers Union in order to make sure that it regains stability and that the way forward is clearly charted for the union’s membership.  Finally, the N.T.U.C.B. says that as long as a constitutionally elected executive is in place and the duties of the CWU are being fulfilled it is prepared to reinstate the union.
