Women’s Football team gets hammered in Venezuela

Basketball is not the only game that Belize is playing on an international level. While the male National Basketball team is headed to Mexico this weekend, the Women’s softball team is currently playing in the Seventh Pan American Women’s Softball Championship in Maracay, Venezuela. The statistics are in and while they aren’t good, Belize still has a fairly slim chance of achieving a medal. In game one, the jewel’s pitcher was Janell Smith who faced off with Cuba’s Yanelis Rodriguez. Rodriquez led the island to a victory of with a score of fourteen to one. In game two, Belize’s pitcher was Mary Flowers who went head to head with Dominican Republic’s Giovanny Nunez. Nunez led the D.R. to a victory of seven to three. But all is not lost for team Belize which is playing a game tonight against Ecuador. Wednesday, the team has two opportunities to show off its skills as it will play game one against the Netherland Antilles and game two against the United States of America. It’s going to be a tough uphill battle because the country can only advance if it wins all its games against Ecuador, the Netherland Antilles, El Salvador and Panama.
